How does the exchange rate work when one uses a credit card abroad?

I'm watching a movie and the American is shopping in a shop in the UK and I was thinking about this if the character were to use a credit card. I'm sure that most major credit cards are accepted abroad, I was wondering how the exchange rate works when an American credit card is used.

  1. The credit card company will do the conversion back to American dollars. Most companies use the conversion rate at the date/time of purchase.
  2. They will charge you of the conversion rate of the day of purchase. To know more about credit card visit http://onlinepaymentoption.blogspot.com and http://creditcardbiz.blogspot.com
