I wish to find the exchange rate for changing from 1 currency to another especially for going on holidays.?

I've just noticed on the teletex and on the net you can get currency rates and tourist rates, both are different. Which one should I rely on, especially with the Indian rupee? What's the difference between the 2? Which websites should I use?

  6. you will get the tourist rates, usually less than the currency rates, but if you get money out using a credit card, then you will get the currency rates. Look very carefully at rates as they aren't all the same, some may appear to give you a better rate, but charge more commission.

  8. www.xe.com is a good website to get a general idea of exchange rates. If you are taking an actual trip you will find that the exchange rate changes regularly (on by a bit each day) and you just have to pick the best exchange rate you find when you need to change money.
  9. Generally the tourist rates are regarded as the retail cash rate, which is the one you will get if wanting cah. The currency rates are retail card rates, typically given to card transactions. There is yet a third rate which you never hear of because they generally wholesale rates given to retail institutions. A lot of people on Yahoo Answers seem to use http://www.xe.com/ but I have tended to use http://www.oanda.com/. Neither is a better or worse site - it depends which site you like the look and feel of. The rates may be differ slightly between the two sites - that will be because they take their exchange information from the curreny markets at different times.
