What are some great personal finance books for young adults?

I'm still in college and know very little about personal finance. My parents manage to get by but I really question some of their decisions at times because I'm further in debt with loans than my friends in the same situation. I wanna manage my own finances with saving, investing, debt management, stocks. etc. What are some recommendations for good programs or books for this? Thanks.

  1. Without a doubt the best for me is TOTAL MONEY MAKE OVER, by Dave Ramsey. Learn how to live your life to become debt free, and especially start young, and be really free of credit interest in order to be financially stable early. You also become quite healthy for your retirement. Check out his web site http://www.daveramsey.com.
  2. The books are plentiful and usually accessible through churches or libraries. The real problem is getting someone to do it. It takes discipline to budget and dedication to forego fun or frolic to make a budget work. As you note, the reality is most people don't plan well or execute well. You are already up to your ear lobes in debt. That being the case, you need to formulate a budget. You need to realistically address "income" and "outgo" and come up with a rational plan for balancing the two. Read any of the books, your problem is not lack of books, it is lack of discipline.
  3. Rich Dad, Poor Dad - Great book, very easy to read and understand.
