just wondering, with all the debate surrounding this in Europe, and with France+UK considering a full ban. since India has arguably the world's largest pop of muslims, and that too outside the muslim world, would such a thing ever be debated? remember that India isn't an islamic country and despite it shouting abt secularism from the rooftops, it's basically a Hindu country at the end of the day. the fact that it's secular owes to its Hindu roots more than anything. no other nation in Asia is as secular, or as tolerant of minorities as India, also given the history. if India were to ever turn islamic, it would be the end of what we know as India. back to the Q, since burkhas are often used by criminals and terrorists in India, it has now become a security threat in public places and buildings. even TV news has revealed that burkhas are good ways to avoid detection and commit crimes. CCTV footage once showed a burkha clad person stuffing jewelry into their robe and escaping from the store. already having so much to deal with, the security forces could afford some help, and in this sense debating a full covering of one's body and face makes sense. there are other options available to muslim women, and it has been pointed out loud and clear many times that the burkha/hijab aren't religious duties and aren't part of the Quran nor Hadiths. someone somewhere made it a rule and the masses stuck to it. if India wants to be progressive and modern, it just doesn't mean that a section of its (non-muslim) women should wear skimpy outfits, it also means that its muslim women shld also show their face in public. a society living in 2 diff eras will never move forward. i wonder, are muslim women allowed to keep burkha on for Indian passport photos? does immigration at airports ask women to take off their face covering for ID purposes? this Q is abt the full head to toe covering, not hijab or any other dress. it is correct that women shouldn't be half-naked on streets of India, or anywhere else. i'm not advocating stripping of women by asking about burkha ban. the Q focuses solely on head to toe coverings - only eyes visible, with its implications for public security, nothing else. no need for emotional outbursts.

First of all, I congratulate France on banning burqa. In India we definitely can debate 'burqa ban', but then perhaps could never implement it. Sorry, India IS NOT A HINDU COUNTRY, it is a SECULAR COUNTRY, with a Hindu majority. Do not spread false information like the cultural TERRORIST organization does. Yes, I agree that we owe secularism in India to its Hindu roots, no doubt about it. But then we should be careful not to imply that Hinduism = North Indian communalism. Well, Europe and America are as tolerant to minorities, if not more than India. France and Switzerland are exceptions, owing to Islamic terrorism. I agree with you on the negative effect of burqa on Indian security. Any terrorist can hide behind a burqa. On what basis would you like to ban the burkha. Because it is often used by criminals and terrorist? Sounds logical,Maybe what will happen if a series of unfortunate killings happen on a hindu festival where people dressed in costumes. Will You ask it to be bannned too. Beacsue a lot of these terrotists come from religious schools will you want to ban them too. I admit Burkha are ancient and should not really be part of society. Banning burkha is not a solution at all. Maybe india need to have the same law for all people. i understand india has 2 sets of rules governing muslim and the rest of india.they should work on that. People are afraid to touch this topic because of the huge voting population. India seems to be on the right track. A lot of investment goes into education. It will take time to understand what these investments will return. and women do have to take off their veils at airpots. i have seen guards asking the women to do so.and they oblige. Maybe a solution would be to have a burkha that only covers the head. i think even the muslim community will find it acceptable.

India must ban burka, hijab, skull cap etc. Now the question arises why. If you inspect the situation thoroughly you will find that wearing burka is either because of fundamentalism or backwardness. I know many Muslims personally and they also say it's backwardness. Or it can be a sign of fundamentalism. And especially in countries like France and Belgium it's is because of Islamic fundamentalism beause why would one wear this attire in a modern country like France? Only to show their fundamentalist attitude. But I think India won't be able to ban burka because our dog govt. has no will power.
Look at the glossy cover of any magazine or advertisements on TV and newspaper, you will find that most of these advertisements have scantily dressed women in alluring poses to attract the attention of men. This proves that the Western society considers woman only as a sex symbol. The liberation of women in Islam is far superior to Western liberation as it allows women to live with respect, dignity and equality in society. Equality does not mean aping and behaving like men or dancing to their carnal tunes; that would be an act of inferiority in the face of one's own femininity. A truly liberated woman always dresses decently and modestly. A true woman will never degrade her body and sell her dignity to the highest bidder. No woman is truly liberated if she is still the slave of her wayward conscience, bodily lust or infidelity. However, in Islam, women, whatever their role as mothers, wives, sisters or daughters, command respect and have a constructive role to play in society. The Hijab itself gives an aura of freedom to the womankind, facilitating their movement and protecting them from provocation and wanton greed of the human wolves. Removal of the Hijab makes you vulnerable to the lust of men. By removing your Hijab, you have destroyed your faith. Islam means submission to Allah (SWT) in all our actions. Those who refuse submission cannot be called Muslims. Nuns wear head veils, Hindus wear it, Sikhs wear the turbans, and there are alot more religions who dress modestly, so why is everyone targeting just muslims?? Not everyone is an extremist. We dont agree with the extremists either. At the end of the day, Islam is about peace, and these people have completely changed the meaning to everything and so everybody else is getting it wrong now. These allegations show BIASED & ONE SIDED completely , ONLY NEGATIVE aspect which rarely happens. BURQA WEARING WOMEN ARE SAFEST . They have HIGHEST DIGNITY, HONOUR & BEST PROTECTION, others DO NOT have. That's why, they're JEALOUS. Body parts exposing women of other communities are mostly NOT VIRGIN at the time of their wedding. They are CRIMINALS too. Free mixing with men DEFINITELY results in various disorders including sex crimes, India being at the top. Every week one Indian news channel exposes secret dance bars type brothels in Mumbai & centres of RAVE PARTIES by hidden camera based STING OPERATION. What about CASTING COUCHES in India in all professional fields everywhere. I know an Indian Keralite senior scientist woman in one prominent organisation who surrendered herself & her three daughters physically before her boss to get favour in promotion. In all Indian hospitals, all nurses go through such horrible episodes & in govt big hospitals, when any toilet chokes up, civil engineering staff discovers at the end that at U turns of the drainage system of the same, large number of condoms are blocking the water flow. These are performances of exposed ladies & men exploiting them. Is not it the worst IMMORAL crime ? So, against BURQA, less said is better. Why not to ban sarees, the most unsafe dress ? Is it a new topic or settled long-long ago ??? Will you send your sisters & daughters to schools, markets & other public places in two very small transparent peaces ???????? Do you think that dating & free mixing of boys & girls are 100 % safe, particularly at secluded places ?? Is a boy friend 100 % safe & 100 % relaible for a girl ?? Should not every girl take up nominal safety precautions herself or fully rely on police force thinking that for what purpose do they exist ??? Are there decent couples inside & what happens at Band Stand, Juhu Beach & Chowpatty Beach in the same city starting a little before sunset & runs upto the midnight ? Why are Hindu & other community girls going to schools, colleges & workplaces miles away by driving motorbikes covering their faces & arms by scarves such that only eyes are visible to beat pollution, sunlight & male gazes, in all cities of INDIA ?????? Aren't ladies driving two wheelers in Mumbai in December end's cold season, not very cold by wearing such scarf veils to beat cold air ? Have Muslims advised them for doing so ????? Why are such scarves & sleeve like hand covers are doing brisk business at shops in every city of India worn with all clothes including tight shirts & jeans ??? Visit Poona city of India & travel on any busy road to see all young girls so covered faces with all types of clothes on their bodies. Why do rural & some urban too Hindu & Sikh ladies cover their faces in Haryana, Rajasthan, Estern UP , ... etc while coming out of their houses ? ? It will take time. However it will also be banned in India owing to security threat it has.
