Why does food cost so much in the UNITED STATES of AMERICA?

If you convert the US dollar into rupees (India's form of currency) you would get almost 50! At a good restaurant there you can get a big meal for about 20 rupees ! That would be less than 50 cents but electronics cost the same there as they do here. Why is that?

  1. huh?
  2. Because the brainwashed public and government continue to run all the illegals out of the country that once processed our food and a lower wage,, now it is done my higher wages and passed on the the consumer
  3. We all subsist on microwavable Tiger penis here in China, we never go hungry like you stupid Americans!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  4. It is related to the Gross National Product, the Gross Domestic Product, and exchange rate of currencies based on these economic indicators and money market fluctuations, as well as the laws of supply and demand. In short, the US values food higher than some other countries because while food is plentiful the people who grow the food need money to buy the things they want so they set food prices higher to achieve this end. The price they set as it relates to other products people produce from your GDP and your GNP taking into account the fact that the US trades with other countries and within itself. GNP is outside the US. GDP is inside the US. Note that apples are not the same price in every country. At any rate the US dollar has a higher value than the Indian rubie because the Indian economy is indebted to many nations and has a weaker infrastructure. That is why dollar will buy you more in India than the US. The exchange rate is in the US favor. And also food manufacturers in India set a lower price on their food so as not to starve their people.
  5. they claim it was because of high gas/oil prices--high cost of shipping the ffod equalled a high price tag...thats why a large pizza went from costing aboiut $8 to around $15...here's the kicker, now that oil is cheap again, the cost of food isnt going down--they're ripping us off
