What are the indians proud of india's economy? Even phillipines gdp is more than india?
And the real per capita gdp is probably much lesser than $2900. Its $2900 probably due to the wealth of ambanis and tatas and bajajs and khans and few others. Millions of indians still live in abject poverty. I live in such a town. I mentioned phillipines because it is small in size compared to india and it has small population and its an asain country. I didnt wanted to insult phillipines in anyway.

- not sure
- What do you mean, "even the Phillipines"? What's that supposed to mean? I find that kind of insulting.
- That's very true. There is a stark contrast between the rich and poor in India. But i'm not really sure what you are asking of me... And i second the other answerer above me, You should be more tactful when referring to entire countries. You can't just generalize, and imply things like that.
- Because improvements have been made. If you are at 0, and have climbed to 50- are you not allow to celebrate improvement until you hit 100?
- why da hell do u care about us. atleast they are living.. if u hate where u live, move out.. i live in the u.s... and idc wht u think might as well stop cursing the land u liv on and go live in some other crappy placee
- well, as a white, male, american- i feel i'm the perfect candidate to answer such a well thought out- non ethnocentric question. let me begin by reminding you that india peaked (as a nation) 300+ years ago, and judging by your disposition you have actually remembered this.... i'm being facetious in case you didn't realize. maybe try restating your question so it doesn't sound like you have such animosity to India and it'll get some real responses...
- if your question had a better title you would have got better responses
- The 2007 International Monetary Fund and the World Bank and the 2008 CIA World Factbook list India's GDP as 12th in the world. The "even Philippines" GDP is ranked between 48th and 44th. Do some pranayama and meditation before asking a question. I do hope your situation gets better regardless the GDP of the country you live.
- Just take a look at the Oscars to see for your self!
- Buddy, here's why 1. We are a big country with billions. We have poverty of the worst order, but we are surviving and putting up good results every year barring this year. 2. Our Growth is good despite our poverty . In fact our growth is better than the US becuase we have lots of potential and big room for development. that makes us sought after.the FII's are here not for nothing 3. Our population is sometimes our strength. Our population means numbers for the rest of the world who would like to take advantage of the numbers and so the sales. 4. all countries around us are failed countries. Pakistan has taliban, Srilanka has LTTE, bangladesh has its own army and Huji to fight, Nepal has a fragile Maoist governemnt and we are a bustling democracy which makes the world take interest in us in the south asian sector. 5. Phillipines does not have the brains that India has. Again it is a polarised nation just like the militarily influenced nations and a coup can be sounded there anytime. No one is interested in investing in such uncertain areas. Phillipinos are trying to catch up with India. Not the other way round 6. Like you mentuoned the Ambanis and the rest are billionaires on the world list. And we should be proud of that. They have pushed up our economic might. So it is a good thing to be proud of. 7. Our stock markets are better off than the US markets and are looking poised to go up soon.We are more insulated from housing problems than the US 8. Our pool of IT brains is the best in the world and in this area we are beating china due to their poor knowledge of English. 9. Our climate is conducive for development and rainfall has been good for last so many years. 10. And if all that wasn't enough, we had the british make a movie on our slums and got the Oscars for ourselves . Abject poverty? Buddy we are the "slumdog millionaires". Keep the first word silent though and you will be saluted in the world very soon. hey, by the way, if you want anything on Goa visit my blog here http://www.goacom.blogspot.com
- that is the average from the billions of people. people are acutally proud of this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_GDP_(PPP) they are ranked 4th in the world. there country itself is rich, while the average person is poor.
- Hi, man, There is no shame of being poor. Some countries are rich, and others are poor. I don't mind living a simple life, in a clean and cool environment. I just don't like to be discriminated because of my lifestyle. The real problem with india is unhygiene. Everywhere you go, there is trash, human waste, animal waste, malodor. To make matter worse, we have a severe shortage of clean water, eletricity.
- i am not sure of your question - India has GDP of $ 1.08 trillion Philippines of $ 144 billion ( trillion is 1000 billion in the US system ) .. as far as the being proud goes - all Indians are not proud . the nation has grown enormously due to new economic policies over the last 18 years . although China started the same process 31 years back and has a head start . there is tremendous deprivation in most of India .. about 60 % of the population live in utter poverty .. the pride has very little to do with good economy .. it is more because Indians are inherently good in maths ( including yours truly ) and with the birth and growth of IT industry we have suddenly found something contemporary we are very good at since it has brought us to the attention of the world .. ( just as East German swimmers and track athletes brought glory to that country ) ..
- India's econemy is growing, and is doing MUCH better than what it was before (THANK YOU MANMOHAN SINGH), and its not exactly "bad". Sure, some countries are doing better, but if you look at the magority of the world, India is doing pretty well for itself
- Indians are proud of that even when the superpower's economy is slashing down our economy is still better off..We have strong foundation.
