What do you think of this Andrew Jackson quote regarding his veto of a central bank?

A central bank is basically what the Federal Reserve is in the present day. "It is to be regretted that the rich and powerful too often bend the acts of government to their selfish purposes. Distinctions in society will always exist under every just government. Equality of talents, of education, or of wealth can not be produced by human institutions. In the full enjoyment of the gifts of Heaven and the fruits of superior industry, economy, and virtue, every man is equally entitled to protection by law; but when the laws undertake to add to these natural and just advantages artificial distinctions, to grant titles, gratuities, and exclusive privileges, to make the rich richer and the potent more powerful, the humble members of society the farmers, mechanics, and laborers who have neither the time nor the means of securing like favors to themselves, have a right to complain of the injustice of their Government. There are no necessary evils in government. Its evils exist only in its abuses. If it would confine itself to equal protection, and, as Heaven does its rains, shower its favors alike on the high and the low, the rich and the poor, it would be an unqualified blessing. In the act before me there seems to be a wide and unnecessary departure from these just principles." -- Andrew Jackson on the VETO OF THE RENEWAL OF THE SECOND BANK OF THE U.S. DAR.............much thanks...........LUV the quote. Republicrat.........much thanx, didn't think you'de mind :)

  1. Hey, what do you know, he was right! Banks are the center of all this Jewery.
  2. Keep in mind that Andrew Jackson abused his appointed power several times throughout his career as president and that his refusal to renew the Second Bank of the U.S. charter set off a large economic depression. This is a great quote if you know little about the history behind it and the rather brutal effects his approach had on the very people he claims to be working for.
  3. This is the stuff that should be taught all through high-school, college and on the History Channel. It states what informed people already know. This is a VERY scary time right now and I'm actually scared for my kids more each day. If our ECONOMY fails, the masses will grasp for whatever the government offers. And I fear this government will give the people the choice of economic slavery over individual liberty and many people will feel that they won't have a choice!
  4. I like it. This too: “Gentlemen, I have had men watching you for a long time, and I am convinced that you have used the funds of the bank to speculate in the breadstuffs of the country. When you won, you divided the profits amongst you, and when you lost, you charged it to the bank. You tell me that if I take the deposits from the bank and annul its charter, I shall ruin ten thousand families. That may be true, gentlemen, but that is your sin! Should I let you go on, you will ruin fifty thousand families, and that would be my sin! You are a den of vipers and thieves. I intend to rout you out, and by the eternal God, I will rout you out.” ANDREW JACKSON, SPEAKING TO INTERNATIONAL BANKERS IN 1832.
  5. I see you copied and pasted my link from an earlier question, lol. I don't care, it's good for people to read. Post at will Here's the link to the whole Bank Veto message, again: http://odur.let.rug.nl/usa/P/aj7/writings/veto.htm -- Hey Neuro [above], the Panic of 1837 lasted only three years. How long did the great depression last?
  6. I love it. The man knew what he was talking about. "The bold effort the present (central) bank had made to control the government ... are but premonitions of the fate that await the American people should they be deluded into a perpetuation of this institution or the establishment of another like it." - Andrew Jackson http://quotes.liberty-tree.ca/quotes_by/andrew+jackson “More than 8,000,000 of the stock of the bank is held by foreigners who are more dangerous than the military power of an enemy.” - Andrew Jackson http://history-resources.com/important/centralbankjackson.html http://odur.let.rug.nl/~usa/P/aj7/speeches/ajson4.htm
