India was actually being exploited by a private company called the East India Company until the Mahrattis fell after the Indian mutiny was put down by Imperial british troops . Then India became a subject colony of England and Queen Victoria became the Empress of India.
  2. opium was huge. india got the brits addicted to it by tracing it in the cigarettes they sold to britain. then they got them off. that made british people trade things for the opium, including gold which of course is very valuable. look up the east india company, or Opium War

India's economy is also tied in with Britain's. The Bank invest a lot of money into India's business. India is also a major source of raw Material. The largest steel company is Tatas.
