How many more FREE-TRADE agreements would Mccain sign, if elected? Protecting the American Dream, huh?

He doesn't see anything wrong with the free trade agreements we now have...and wants more. Wondering how many more would he sign and HOW would they IMPACT American manufacturing? How would they impact the American Dream of getting a decent job and raising a family w/out worries of outsourcing jobs to China, India?

  1. More trade is good. Welching on deals is bad.
  2. Do your homework. Free trade has CREATED more jobs than it has lost us!
  3. Hopefully as many as he can get. Do yourself a favor. Google Smoot Hawley Tariff Act. Take a look at what restricted trade did for the world in the 1930's. I for one don't want restricted trade and another Great Depression.
  4. Trade is good; we trade our jobs and they give us cheap, crappy merchandise PS It is not free trade if slave labor made it
  5. Funny, I thought Free Trade WAS the American dream, not Socialism.
  6. I don't think you understand the economic benefits of free trade. Free trade makes prices fall which means more people can afford more things. Restricting free trade benefits the much smaller group of manufacturing workers at the expense of the consumer.
  7. good question.
  8. I don't know the exact number, but he'll sign everyone that's placed before him
  9. He's indicated his desire to continue free trade with South American and suggested a free trade agreement with the European Union. Free Trade is better than mercantilism and protectionism, while it's not entirely beneficial more economists than not agree that the benefits outweigh the detriments.
  10. Free trade is a very good idea for all concerned. Here in the US, we just need to focus more on producing high quality products at a reasonable price for export, rather than simply on mindless consumerism. The American Dream includes getting decent job and raising a family, as you say, but it does not begin there. First you need a good education. Furthermore, after you get that job, you cannot expect to stay there punching the same time clock for forty years and then retire with a gold watch. The world doesn't work that way anymore. You need to make a concerted effort to update and enhance your skills continuously throughout your working life, and expect to change jobs, if not careers, several times. You also need to save for your own retirement. Don't expect other people to pay for your retirement for you.
