1. here: Bangladeshi businessmen think India's "big-brotherly" attitude towards their country is a major irritant to Indo-Bangladesh trade relations, according to Amir Humayun Mahmud Chowdhury, president of the Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry. In an informal chat with The Hindu on Saturday, he said that while Bangladesh recognised the ISI certification, India refused to recognise the certificate issued by the Bangladesh Standard Technical Institute (BSTI), the Bangladesh counterpart of the Bureau of Indian Standards. Mr. Chowdhury, who is here to attend a seminar on Indo-Bangladesh export promotion, said that consignments of Bangladesh cement ordered by some Tripura traders were recently turned down by Indian customs officials because the commodity did not have ISI certification. "How can Bangladeshi manufacturers obtain ISI certification for their products," he asked. Also, he said, the Director-General of Foreign Trade insisted that the maximum retail price of the products must be mentioned on the packages meant for export to India. "How can Bangladeshi manufacturers/exporters determine and fix the MRP at which Indian importers will sell the products?"
